SERVE 2019

Dates: July 7-10

Limited Spaces Available!

What is Junior High WorkCamp?

Junior High WorkCamp is a 3+ day service outreach experience for current 6th, 7th, and 8th graders right here in Northern Virginia. Alongside four other parishes in the area (St. Mary of Sorrows, St. Paul Chung, St. Leo the Great and St. Veronica), campers will come together during the day and travel to work sites in small groups around the area for a day of service. In the afternoon, the entire group comes back together for social activities and programs, to share our experiences and our faith, to play games, and have fun.

What are the dates and times?

Junior High WorkCamp dates are July 7-10, 2019. On Sunday July 7, parents and Junior Highers will meet at St. Leo from 6:15-8:00 PM to familiarize themselves with the overall program. On July 8-10, we will meet from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm.

Where do we meet?

Next summer, Junior High WorkCamp will be based out of St. Leo Church (3700 Old Lee Highway) in Fairfax. Campers will meet there each morning before heading to worksites and our afternoon / evening activities will also be at St. Leo’s.

What are some potential worksites?

Worksites may include (but are not limited to)

· Visiting / spending time at a retirement center

· Volunteering at parish projects

What about meals?

Breakfast and dinner are part of the package. However, each camper is asked to bring a bag lunch with them to take to their work site. We will have light breakfast available in the morning before campers head to their work sites and snacks in the afternoon. We will also have drinks available throughout the day both at the work sites and at St. Leo’s.

What are the afternoon/evening programs and activities?

Each afternoon we will have both recreational and social activities for campers to get to know each other, play games, and have some down time after their outreach experience. In the evenings, structured programs will include small and large group discussion, games, and presentations. In addition, we will use the time to explore our Catholic faith through prayer, praise, and worship.

What is the cost?

This program is $75 per participant. Additionally, boys need to bring in two items for the Gabriel project while girls need to bring in two items for the homeless shelter (lists of needed items for these projects are on the final page of the registration under the “fees” section).

How do I sign up?

REGISTRATION OPENS ON JANUARY 13, 2019

Turn in a SERVE2019-Permission Form and $75 registration fee to the Youth/RE Office.
